The Dungeon/Fort Purcell

The Dungeon/Fort Purcell (Pockwood Pond, West End, Tortola) — this fort was first built during the 17th century by the Dutch, and expanded by the British in the mid-18th century.  It housed a garrison of soldiers responsible for protecting the islands, and was named for Governor James Purcell, who oversaw the fortification of both Tortola and nearby islands under British control.
