Beef Island

Beef Island – this is a small island just east of Tortola, and is connected to that island by the Queen Elizabeth Bridge. Beef Island’s importance for BVI is the fact that the main commercial airport that serves Tortola and other nearby islands (Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport / IAIA code EIS) is located there. Trellis Bay, a small town and beach (with a market, restaurants, coffee shops and local crafts) is just a walk away from the airport. It is said that Beef Island got its name from the area’s piracy days in the 1700s, when it was used to raise cattle.
